Nadzim has big plans for Bukit Antarabangsa #fb

MORE FACILITIES: BN candidate intends to transform the constituency

GOMBAK: THE people of Bukit Antarabangsa can expect to get low-cost houses under the 1Malaysia Housing Programme Corporation (PR1MA) in their area if Barisan Nasional wins in the upcoming 13th General Election.

This is BN candidate Mohd Nadzim Ibrahim’s pledge to his constituents. Nadzim will take on former state assemblyman Mohamad Azmin Ali of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Bukit Antarabangsa.

The 42-year-old lawyer has a number of plans which will bring transformation to the constituency, if he wins the seat.

“If I were given the mandate, I will propose that the government implement the PR1MA scheme in the area for low-income earners.

“There are concerns over the lack of affordable houses in the district. The PKR has failed to provide low-cost houses to meet the needs of middle and low-income earners during their administration,” he said at a meeting at the Ampang Umno office, recently.

Nadzim, who is also the Ampang Umno division committee member and Ampang Jaya Umno branch chief, said the upgrading of security was high on the list of demands from the high-income earners.

“There are plans to set up more police beat bases and revive the Rukun Tetangga (neighbourhood watch) to enhance security here.”

The young people in the middle-income group, he said, are asking to be given ample opportunities to engage in business.

He said young hawkers and traders in the area are keen to operate their business but have limited resources.

“In the last eight months, the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry has provided 260 hawkers with provisions and equipment like refrigerators, portable stalls and coffee mixers. We will help the business operators to develop their business,” he added.

As Bukit Antarabangsa has been hit by landslides in the past few years, Nadzim is keen to address the issues and see to it that landslides are a thing of the past.

He said the BN machinery was the first to assist the landslide victims in 2008.

“You can ask the victims who arrived at the scene first after the landslide hit the area five years ago. The PKR was slow to alleviate the hardship of the victims,” he said.

Other issues he wants to address are improving public transport and building a school in the township.

“Most parents send their children to schools in Ampang, Taman Melawati and Kuala Lumpur as there are no schools in Bukit Antarabangsa. There are places where we can allocate a space to build schools.

“There are not many buses plying the township so I would like to change that, too.”

Nadzim, who has been practising law for 19 years, has been actively involved in politics since 1997.

The Malacca-born graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM) with a Bachelor’s degree in law.

As a newcomer, Nadzim acknowledged that he is an underdog and he will be facing a tough fight against Azmin.

“I admit that I’m new in the political field. I hope the voters will give me a chance to serve them in this constituency,” he said.
